Canon EF-M 11-22 mm vs. 22 mm
Canon lenses are popular since they are small, lightweight and offer different capabilities. The company has been producing high-quality lenses for years. They produce different durable models that allow you to shoot videos or capture images in different conditions. We will try to compare two models from the company namely Canon EF-M 11-22 mm and Canon EF-M 22mm to help you choose the right one for your needs.
Canon EF-M 11-22mm
Do you need a lens that lets you capture environmental portraits? Choose Canon EF-M 11-22 mm. Many vloggers who are looking for good quality videos like adding a wide angle lens to their collection. Canon EF-M 11-22mm goes well with mirrorless cameras. Don’t underestimate it based on its size. Though small, it boosts the quality of images and gives clear pictures.
The lens is not compatible with Canon DSLRs but works well with EOS M series cameras. Such cameras are equipped with AP-C sensors allowing the lens to offer a 35mm frame angle. The wide-angle lens lets you capture most of the interior scenes even in small spaces. You can use it to take group portraits.
Since the lens is wide, the aperture range is also wide. This lets in additional light making you obtain a clear and strong background. When shooting using this lens in low light conditions, you can improve the quality of images by either lowering ISO or raising the shutter speed. The lens does not perform very well in low light conditions. You can record a video silently using this lens since it contains the IS system.
Canon EF-M 22mm
One of the first lenses that incorporated the use of a stepper motor is Canon EF-M 22 mm. The motor allows it to deliver smooth focusing even as you move. It is a compact lens that works with mirrorless cameras. When you mount it on a camera with ASPC sensor, you can easily capture individual portraits as you move around since it is small and light-weight.
The f2 focal ratio can blur backgrounds at a close range. Though you cannot use the lens in harsh weather conditions, it is solidly constructed with a metal lens mount. The problem with this lens is that it has slow autofocus making it frustrating when you want to do street photography. It is however easy to use when it comes to focusing, pointing and even shooting.
Despite its drawbacks Canon EF-M 22 mm stands out when it comes to the quality of images it captures. Due to the lack of chromatic aberrations, it provides you with nice bokeh and sharp output. You can get good bokeh as you focus close to the subject. It is unfortunate that this canon lens model has a narrow focusing ring, but the narrow grip facilitates fingertip operation. Feel free to use this lens to take videos or images since the motor makes it a silent performer. It is also suitable for those talking in front of the camera.
After looking at the canon lens individually, we see that each type is designed for different purposes. Canon EF-M 22 mm provides sharp focus on individual while Canon EF-M 11-22 lens is ideal for vloggers.
